A new portable console from Sony?
It also seems that Sony has some kind of a trick up its sleeve for gaming enthusiasts. There only seems to be speculation on the part of the net-savvy that the Japanese giant is in the process of developing yet another portable gaming device. What the company currently has is the PS Portal and it can therefore be deduced that this console shall be solely a gaming console and not a streaming one. But what will this new console contain?
Several have wondered out loud if what sony is working on is in fact a portable version of the PS5?
The people over at Digital Foundry have offered a convincing speculation; this gives an impression of what Sony might be planning. If you were expecting a portable version of the PS5, then the news is not very good. Moreover, the source of a specialized site has said that the portable console cannot be run natively on PS5 games. This is so because the PS5 will come with a 200-watt system to power the console’s performance. It would therefore be impossible to have this kind of power with a 20-watt system even in a few years time.
Adapted or entirely new games
This will mean games will have to be built from the ground up for Sony’s new handheld console, in the same way you do when you take a Nintendo Switch and play them in handheld mode. Another option would have been to develop new games as was the scenario when the company launchedASF in PSP And Vita. Before the Switch, even Nintendo provided different experiences on the company’s DS and 3DS platforms. Such distinctions were typical considering that some of the handheld games were developed as distinct products from those intended to be aired on television.
Nonetheless, with Sony out of the handheld console business for several years now, the firm appears unwilling to privilege handheld games from game shows again. Thus it would appear that modifying existing PS5 games is the only realistic course of action.
A launch still a long way off
Whichever way Sony turns, it is currently clear that all indicates that the launching of the PlayStation portable is still far off. This provides the company ample time to determine what a PlayStation handheld console has to be to find success in a market with competitor products like the Steam Deck and the Nintendo Switch.
