A technological revolution for Samsung
The Korean giant Samsung could well be the talk of the town in 2025. According to information gathered by the Chosun newspaper, the company is considering a major change for its next generation of foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Flip 7. Indeed, Samsung could abandon the Qualcomm chips, used until now, in favor of its own chips, the Exynos.
Samsung, technological independence?
Until now, Samsung has always used Qualcomm’s high-end Snapdragon SoCs for its foldable phones. The upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Flip FE could feature an Exynos 2500 though. This would be a first from the company’s current policy. The move may also save some costs for the Korean giant as Qualcomm recently raised the price of its chips by 20 to 30 percent.
Technological success and production challenges
Chosun quotes Samsung officials as saying that the company had some problems in the early stages of mass-producing the new Exynos processor but “the process has stabilized, it is now only a matter of time before we start mass production.”. According to early rumors, this new processor might make it into the Galaxy S25 series, launching next month. However, the supply chain for Exynos chips may be insufficient for an early-2025 launch, in which case it will come later to the premium editions of the Z Flip.

Uncertainty over Global Availability
It is yet to be known whether this transition to Exynos applies strictly to some regions or is for the whole world. Historically, Samsung has produced phones with Snapdragon chips launched in some parts of the world, while their Exynos-powered versions made their ways to other places. And that practice can be repeated with future models of the Galaxy Z Flip. However, with those uncertainties aside, one thing is certain: 2025 will be an exciting year when it comes to innovations from Samsung.
