Google reinvents its Play Store with artificial intelligence
Google has just announced a series of updates to its Play Store, intended to reinvigorate its use. The changes are part of a broader overhaul to make its digital platform an “end-to-end experience that goes beyond just a store,” in the company’s words.
Power of artificial intelligence
The innovations will mainly revolve around the introduction of Artificial Intelligence (AI). This will include AI-generated review summaries that will consolidate user reviews to form consensus. This concept, popularized by Facebook and Google Search, was announced by the company during this year’s I/O event.
Improve user experience
The majority of this update is focused on improving the user experience. Especially when it comes to helping people discover new games, with pages providing rich details about the games. The update also promises more personalization with a new feature, Collections, which creates custom categories based on apps previously purchased by the user.
The use of AI will also extend to auto-generated FAQs for each application, powered by Gemini models. In addition, there will be AI-generated highlights that will offer a brief summary of each application, allowing for a quick comparison of applications in similar categories.
Shared spaces around common interests
The Play Store will now host shared spaces geared towards various topics of interest. Going beyond the notion of mini social networks, these spaces will be real pages dedicated to themes that include multimedia content, a selection of connected applications and simple surveys for users.
While some of these developments are still at an early stage, many are starting to be implemented right now. With these innovations, Google continues to transform its Play Store into a much more complete and interactive online space.
