Google Teams Up With Roblox for Good Cause
In the digital world of today, there is no bigger cause than spreading online safety education, and more particularly among those who are the youngest netizens. Thus, Google has collaborated with Roblox to develop a game that imparts knowledge to kids on identifying scamming attempts over the internet and being careful while sharing personal information online. The whole initiative is named Be Internet Awesome World.
A virtual world to learn online safety
This gaming experience exists within Roblox, a platform that Google says helps “reach kids where they already spend time to teach them the basics of online safety.” The game transports children to the “magical world of Internet users” which houses a series of mini-games addressing different aspects of Internet safety. Some games focus on phishing attempts, while others stress on the “practice of online benevolence.”
Roblox: A Popular but Controversial Platform
However, despite the nobility of this initiative, it should be pointed out that Roblox has been criticized for security issues. With nearly 80 million daily active users, many of whom are children, the platform has been accused of being an insecure space for young gamers. Accusations of child financial exploitation on the platform have also been made, according to a report by The Guardian.
