Having your smartphone stolen is not fun, so if the device could make our lives easier by making thieves’ lives a little more complicated, it would be welcome. Google is working on it and has launched testing a new block feature in case of theft.

Android 15 has a built-in theft detection feature that automatically locks your smartphone’s screen. Beforehand, the aircraft must detect a sudden or unexpected movement, as is usually the case during pickpocketing at full speed. In addition to these unexpected moves, the feature can also spot attempts to connect to unknown networks. The whole thing is sprinkled with artificial intelligence, because what isn’t?

Once the smartphone is locked, the thief can no longer access the data… unless you know the unlock code, which is another problem. This feature was recently tested in Brazil, and if the feedback is satisfactory, it will be rolled out to other parts of the world. And Android 15 won’t be the only version to benefit from theft detection, this will also be the case for devices running Android 10 and above.

Android 15 also contains a system to hide apps and a private space feature that acts as a “virtual smartphone” within the smartphone, thus protecting data from prying eyes.
