With the imminent arrival of Copilot+ machines, the place of artificial intelligence in Windows 11 is likely to be increasingly important in users’ daily lives. Which, for many, raises both concerns and questions. To avoid losing the trust of its users, Microsoft is testing new options in Windows settings to give you more control over AI-related features.

Windows 11 will give you control over AI
As usual, it is the leaker PhantomOcean3 himself who unveils on his Twitter/X account the arrival of these new options. Microsoft is testing new security and privacy settings for applications to use generative AI.

Windows 11 build 26236, which is currently being tested with Insiders, introduces a Generative AI menu in the operating system’s privacy and security > settings. In detail, this new menu not only allows you to completely disable access to AI for all PC users, but also to choose which applications will be able to use Microsoft’s generative AI. But that’s not all. Microsoft has also included in these settings a menu where all the generative AI-related queries from the last seven days are grouped.

A priori, Windows 11 should also display a UAC dialog when an application requests to use generative AI. You will then be able to decide whether or not to allow access to the latter.

At the moment, no date of possible availability is known.
