It turns up the volume on the AirPods Pro 2, Apple’s upcoming true wireless earbuds. After yesterday’s rumors about LC3 codecs and Bluetooth 5.2, today comes an even more sensational leak, which basically reveals all the main features, from design to functionality.
The source is of the reliable ones, namely the same 52Audio, which had anticipated the design of the AirPods Pro and more recently also of the AirPods 3 in advance of the launch. So, although there is nothing confirmed, it is still worth taking the content of the leak seriously. Starting with the renders that you see below, and that portray the appearance that the new AirPods Pro 2 should have: decidedly familiar.
Last year the insider Mark Gurman had reported on experiments at Apple to develop a stemless design, but evidently things turned out differently. Cupertino, as expected, has chosen to remain faithful to the lines seen on AirPods Pro, also because after all we are only at the second generation, there is no hurry to abandon an identity (that of the apple top headphones) that has just established itself in the collective imagination.
USB-C, HEART RATE AND MORE
The novelties will all be of a technical nature, and the first stands out on the case. Already the AirPods Pro 2, in fact, should abandon the proprietary Lightning port in favor of USB-C – moving forward, therefore, in the forced transition to the single charger already approved in Europe and for which something begins to move also in the USA. The adoption of USB-C should also lead to a speeding up of charging times.
As for the new features, according to 52Audio the AirPods Pro 2 will be equipped with sensors capable of monitoring the heart rate (to be used independently or coupled with Apple Watch for what we assume will be a cross-measurement and therefore even more accurate). In addition, it seems that these sensors are also able to support the detection of body temperature, but 52Audio specifies that this function is not confirmed and is simply being tested: at the time of launch, therefore, it may or may not be there.
At the heart of the AirPods Pro 2 is expected to be a new H1 chip with a next-generation SiP system and self-adaptive and even more advanced noise cancellation. The new H1 will be able to guarantee better performance associated with a further optimized energy expenditure, to the benefit of autonomy.
And if you were to lose the AriPods Pro 2, it should be easier to find them thanks not only to the support of the “Where is it” feature to track them with the homonymous app on the iPhone, but also through a speaker integrated on the case (AirTag style). As for the sound side, on airPods Pro 2 they should offer the acoustics of the AirPods 3 (but associated with an in-ear design). There will be, of course, advanced features such as spatial audio with head tracking, audio sharing and self-adaptive equalization.
In addition, according to the leak it seems that Apple has developed the possibility for the AirPods Pro 2 to play the role of hearing aid for the benefit of people with hearing defects, thanks to the ability to process the sound received from the outside and return it more clearly and sharply to the user.
On the launch window 52Audio does not express itself, and we must therefore rely on the indications provided by the well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, according to which production will begin in the second half of the year, and the launch is expected by the end of 2022.
