Apple joins the fray with the foldable smartphone.
Although it has been exactly seven years since the first-ever commercial foldable phone, the saga looks set to see Apple join the competition desperado. This year alone, rumours on a foldable iPhone which Apple is believed to be working on are appearing more and more often; some sources refer to it as the “iPhone Flip”. But the last amongst these suggest that this phone is slowly and gradually transforming into a real product.

A formal development process
Writing on Twitter, an informed source known by the pseudonym Eyes1122 cautioned that the proposed iPhone Flip is in the formal development process with display makers including LG Display or Samsung Display. Mocks will appear, experiments and iterations will be performed, the laying the groundwork for production and sale.

In other words, Apple would like to launch a foldable phone that should correspond to some necessary technological standards.

A launch in 2 to 3 years
Apple just started the development of this foldable iPhone and this new device will not be released until two to three years from now. This is in harmony with other leaks which warned that the iPhone Flip could be developed at some time in 2026 or even 2027.

Samsung in response increases the development and manufacture of this type of products.
Notably, Eyes1122 alleges that this advancement will compel Samsung to step up its foldable phone innovation or launch perhaps a “hybrid fold, the FE series, and other design changes after the Fold SE.”

This foreshadows earlier leaked Samsung foldable phones like the Samsung tri-foldable phone that is expected to be released in the next year. It could be accompanied by a cheaper Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 FE, finally bringing an entry-level (read: and provide consumers with a cheaper foldable phone to the market which is a global anticipation.
